Viewing Tips

    Use Google Earth's automated 'play' function. To do this:

  • 1. Click on one of the links above to open the Google Earth map. (You must have Google Earth installed.)
  • 2. Make sure your "Places" menu is expanded, on the left-hand side of your screen (click on the small triangle to the left of the title Places to expand/contract).
  • 3. Under 'temporary places', the file you've opened should automatically display a check mark in the box to the left of its name: if not, check this box.
  • 4. Click once on the 'Play' icon (small triangle) at the very bottom of the Places menu.
  • 5. If the tour is moving too quickly, or if you are not seeing a window opening up at each 'camera' or 'info' site, you need to go into your Google Earth "Tools" tab (at the top of the page), click on "Options" and then on the tab labeled "Touring". We suggest that you set 'Tour Pause" to about 15-20 seconds. Also make sure that you've checked the box next to "Show balloon when tour is paused."

System Requirements

Google Earth is a broadband, 3D application that older computers may not be able to run, particularly:

  • Desktop computers older than 4 years
  • Notebook computers older than 2 years

Before downloading Google Earth, check to ensure that your system meets at least the minimum criteria, and preferably the recommended criteria, listed below.

Minimum configuration for PC:

  • Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP
  • CPU: Pentium 3, 500Mhz
  • System Memory (RAM): 128MB
  • Hard Disk: 400MB free space
  • Network Speed: 128 Kbits/sec
  • Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 16MB of VRAM
  • Screen: 1024x768, "16-bit High Color

Minimum configuration for Mac:

  • Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4.0
  • CPU: G3 500Mhz
  • System Memory (RAM): 256MB
  • Hard Disk: 400MB free space
  • Network Speed: 128 Kbits/sec
  • Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 16MB of VRAM
  • Screen: 1024x768, "Thousands of Colors"
