Brian is an adventurer, world traveller and leader of some 80 expeditions to remote locations world-wide. During daily hikes and walks with CMH's professional guides, adults and children will have the opportunity to share stories and laughter with Brian and Dee. In the evening back at the lodge, Brian will give informal and entertaining presentations on his exciting adventures that have taken him around the globe that will appeal to all ages. Heli-Hiking with Wade DavisCanadian Wade Davis has been called "a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all life's diversity". A National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, Wade's career as a anthropologist, botanist, photographer and author have taken him to the far corners of the world to learn from ancient and existing cultures.

On this 3-day Short Escape in the Bugaboos you will have the opportunity to not only walk, hike, climb and ramble amid some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Canada, but to spend time with Wade Davis. One evening back at the lodge he will share his Massey Lectures presentation The Wayfinders: Why Ancient Wisdom Matters in the Modern World.

About Wade Davis:
As a teenager, Wade Davis spent time in the Bugaboos as a Junior Park Ranger and has a particular affinity for these mountains. Author of the current best-seller: Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory and the Conquest of Everest, his other books include and The Serpent and the Rainbow, about the zombies of Haiti and One River: Explorations and Discoveries in the Amazon Rain Forest. He has published 185 scientific and popular articles on subjects ranging from Haitian voodoo and Amazonian myth and religion to the global biodiversity crisis, the traditional use of psychotropic drugs, and the ethnobotany of South American Indians. Whatever your interests, you're sure to find common ground!

Peter Potterfield Hiking in Banff National ParkPeter Potterfield is the go-to journalist and author on outdoor adventure. He is a contributor to magazines such as Conde Nast and Outside but may be more well-known as the author of In the Zone, Himalayan Quest and Classic Hikes of the World. In August of 2012 Peter released his newest book, Classic Hikes of North America.

Join Peter for a Lodge-to-Lodge adventure with CMH, or if your schedule allows only for 3 nights you can join for either the Bobbie Burns or the Bugaboo portion. Either way you will have the opportunity to not only walk, hike, climb and ramble amid some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Canada, but to spend time with this renowned author who has hiked around the world. Dr. Cam Gillies, PhD., Ornithologist

Cam Gillies, PhDCam grew up enjoying the birds and Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. He is a keen birder and photographer and is excited to share his passion with others.

Cam has guided several trips and has participated in a variety of research projects; everything from catching endangered Leopard Frogs to snow tracking Wolverines. He completed a PhD at the University of Alberta on the movement of forest birds in Costa Rica. During his fieldwork he managed to follow the movements of Barred Antshrikes and Rufous-naped Wrens with radio-telemetry as they flew far and wide! Over several years, he has traveled and birded his way through Jamaica, Guatemala, Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, Bolivia, and Chile.

Chef John Ash

Chef John AshMany refer to Chef John Ash as the "Father of Wine Country Cuisine". In 1980 he opened his namesake restaurant, John Ash & Company, in Santa Rosa, CA. It was the first restaurant in Northern California wine country to focus on local, seasonal ingredients used to create dishes that complemented the wines being made in the region.

Today, John travels the world teaching cooking classes to both home cooks as well as professionals. His passion for teaching is matched only by his passionate voice on sustainable food issues, serving on the Board of the Chef's Collaborative, a national organization of chef's committed to sustainable and ethical food issues. He has also served on the Board of Advisors of Seafood Watch, an educational initiative for sustainable seafood by the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

On this exciting Heli-Hiking vacation, John will discuss sustainable food issues and his latest cookbook "Culinary Birds".
